What a Find!!!

To start, I am not totally against garage sales, I just don't typically go to them unless I can see from the street that there might be something of interest to me.

That being said...

This last weekend, one of my besties - Jacqui, by name - and her sister were having a garage sale.
Now typically I wouldn't be interested in much, because I just don't do garage sales.
Well, being the fab-tastic friend she is, she called me about something that her sister had that she knew would be of immense interest to me.

I am a hoarder!
Yes, a hoarder! I can't pass up cheap (by cost only) fabric!
Jacqui's sister had a whole tote (I'm talking an 18-20 gallon tote) FULL of different fabrics!
I haven't even had a chance to look through my treasure, but I know there are some awesome fabrics for hats and totes and whatever the heck else I wanna make.
I can't wait until swimming lessons are over this Thursday, because I am gonna be a sewing fiend for the next two weeks (until swimming lessons start up again).

The best part of this find, was that it only cost me $25.00 for the whole "kit-n-kaboodle"!
Seriously, some of the fabric in there was probably about that much for a yard or two alone, so I made out awesome on that deal.
Okay, her sister made some cash to send her girls on an FBLA trip too.
So not only was it worth it for the fabric, but I was helping fund something important to them!

Now I need to find a dresser for the guest bedroom/craft room to store all of the hoards of fabric I have.
Maybe I should rethink my attitude about going to garage sales a little bit!

What a Busy Weekend...

Okay, so I was a busy bee this weekend. First my hubby decided we needed to do some spring clean in one of the rooms that we do not frequently use except to "stash" stuff that we need to get out of sight. Most of the time because we are having company over. He also decided we needed to clean a large storage closet - that we have cleaned once before.

So, all day Saturday was spent doing nothing - and I mean NOTHING - except cleaning. Oh, and this room just happens to be in the basement where the heat from the wood-burning stove does not, I repeat, DOES NOT find it's way.  Needless to say, it is freaking cold down there (yes, the craft room/guest bedroom is also down there, so I don't sew all too often as of late).  Bundled up in long sleeves, pants, socks, and my trusty old fluffy slippers, we cleaned, and cleaned, and cleaned...  Well, you get the picture!

Anyway, I felt on Sunday it was time for me to treat myself to some well earned sewing time. I have had fabric cut out for two tops and a pair of pants (all scrubs mind you, I have to stick to my 30 for 30 challenge over here) for roughly 6 months now. So I took a trusty little space heater, plugged it in and nearly sat on it for 2-3 hours to make one of my tops.

I must admit, I really like the way the top looks and the next one shouldn't take nearly as long. It always seems to work out that way once you have made one.  ;-)  Even though I am not a "die hard" Nebraska football fan, I still try to look the part - mostly because most Nebraskans are.  I really like the fabric, just wish it would not have focused on football, guess I will need to see about finding fabric that can be "universal" for all Husker sports.

Here are a few pictures of the finished product...

What do you think? Cute right?
It is a wrap top and I really like the fit.
For once in my life, I didn't have to have my mother sew the sleeves in for me.

Love you MOM!

The Weekend in Review...

Okay, I know the weekend is officially NOT over yet, but I have to do something to relax and this is what I thought of that would not take much effort.  Sewing always calms me, but I don't want to go down to my "hole" to sew, cuz it's a tad bit chilly down there (our only source of heat in our house is the wood burning stove).  I don't feel like dragging a space heater down there either!

Yesterday Jilli-bean had her very first dance class at our local YMCA.  It was terrible for her!  She is a very shy little girl and the dance experience was aweful.  She would not participate at all.  I tried to do participate with her to get her to dance, but I felt really silly cuz there were a bunch of parents there watching.  All she wanted was to sit on my lap or be held and bury her face in my chest.  I hope next Saturday goes much better.  We will have to drop her off and not stay and watch, so hopefully it will go much better.  She doesn't have issues with going to her daily daycare provider or to the child watch program while I am working out at the "Y", so I am at a complete loss for what happened yesterday.  Maybe it was because of all of the parents there watching?

So, the hubs paid our Dish bill last week and we were pleasantly surprised to find out that we are going to be getting a year - count that 12 months - of Starz for FREE.  Holy smokes!  So awesome!  Over yesterday and today, I have seen at least 4 movies that I had not had the pleasure of viewing yet!  One of which I hadn't even heard of and 3 that I have wanted to see for so long, but refused to pay to see in the theatre.  Okay, I only go to movies in the theatre that I KNOW I am going to love (i.e. Harry Potter or Twilight series).  Anyway, these are the movies that I have gotten to see and I must say, I enjoyed them all very much.

I sure do L-O-V-E incredibly lazy weekends.

All that is left for the weekend is watching the Super Bowl, however I will not be watching the game.  I will find something else to watch or do, but I will definitely eat some of the delish ribs and wings that my hubby has decided to put on the smoker.  Maybe I will even make some potato salad to go along with them!
